WIP Magic Post
Magic can be taught, but it mostly needs at least some level of natural talent. You need to have that spark to be able to use it. A lot of people in West Tamor and Tamor have that natural talent, especially in Arcia.
Most types of dark magic don't require that natural talent, but tends to come at a cost of some sort. On the other hand, normal magic doesn't cause any kind of corruption or anything like in WoW.
All normal magic comes from a magic realm, but not much is known about it beyond that. There are Elementals which a skilled elementalist can summon from that realm.
Dark magic consists of Blood Magic, Necromancy, and Demonic Magic. We haven't talked about any other types. The effects and drawbacks of these tend to be fairly obvious in most cases.

A person's base talent in magic is based off a scale of 1-100. If a person is between 1-20, their potential is nil to slim. 20-40 is fairly average among non-Tamorians and can still become a powerful mage with enough dedication and work. 50-70 is the optimal rating, meaning the person can accomplish new heights of magic use with less effort. However, more conditioning must be done to be able to sustain a high amount of magic. 80-90 means a person will be in pain for all their life because the magic will be flooding their body at every moment and they can be very volatile beings. 90-100 have, in history, a 100% case of death before the age of 5 because the amount of energy running through the body is too much and the person is torn apart by the raw, unfocused energy.
Magic comes from a person's soul and if they nurture their magic, it'll flourish but if it's neglected it will fade over time until they become inert and unable to ever perform magic. Adding to that, a person without a soul has no connection to the realm of magic and cannot perform it ever. Most people are born with some degree of it but just choose different career paths due to interests.
Certain rituals and conditions are not required for most normal magic as evokers and illusionists project their soul, Conjurers use theirs to communicate with beings from other planes, Transmuters use it to manipulate already existing objects, etc.

Re: WIP Magic Post
That really sounds like a good post. Definitely get it posted when you think it's ready. We need to get that compendium filled.
